How to Prepare for Your Yoga Photo Shoot
During last years I was lucky to create stunning visual content for different nomad yoga teachers visiting or living in Barcelona.
After photographing them in different locations: studios, outdoors or during workshops
I prepared some insights and tips and that I wanted to share with anybody who is preparing for a yoga photo shoot
- First of all, think about your statement, about your brand philosophy and what kind of emotions you want to transmit with your photographs.
Yoga positions are extremely photogenic, but also as a yoga teacher you should find the balance between the stunning visuals and the spirituality.
When you figure out what you, as a yoga teacher is standing for, think what kind of content you need and where you’re going to post it on: Instagram, Website or Facebook.
Every single platform has its own rules and you need different formats.
Make sure to be specific about it and to talk it through with your photographer.
- Inspire and be inspired.
Make a small research and prepare a mood board with the poses that you would like to photograph.
Note down a list of poses you’d like to include during your session.
The best is to have a variety of standing poses, balances and backbends.
- Always remember about the light.
If you want your photos to be taken with a natural light, remember that the best time is early in the morning or just before the sunset.
In studio your photographer should arrange additional light if needed.
Never forget to play with the shadows, lights and reflections. You can get really magical and unique effects.
- Think about the location and style. Would you prefer a photoshoot outside or in a studio?
Both are great.
Studio has more minimal vibe, might be more consistent with your online visual strategy.
Outside shoots give you more freedom and a variety of backdrops.
You can find excellent urban minimal locations or connect with the nature. Specially in places like Barcelona you have an insane amount of possibilities.
Don’t forget to warm up before your yoga photo shoot. That’s really important, you will be repeating the same poses few times, besides the photoshoot always last a bit more than a regular yoga practice.
Relax and enjoy it!
Hope that it will help you to prepare for your yoga photo shoot.
